LUC not really a bubble; more like a plasma secretion.

It’s been a popular trope to call LUC a bubble, particularly because nearly all its activities are limited to its building, Anna van Buerenplein. Following this trend, a group of researchers who take things literally decided to investigate the metaphor more in depth and came across surprising findings.

After conducting experiments on the building as well as conducting many theoretical tests, the team arrived at the conclusion that LUC is not in fact a bubble, but more akin to a plasma secretion.

We interviewed lead researcher Dr. Munchausen and she claimed that “There is a severe misunderstanding as to what a bubble is. It’s a globule of one substance in another, usually a liquid filled with gas. It’s naturally very precarious because it can easily be popped.”

They stumbled upon the similarity with a plasma secretion while flipping through a biology textbook. “We were just hanging around, having a good time when Jeffrey gave a shout. We crowded around the book and noticed the similarity immediately.” said Dr. Munchausen.

A plasma secretion occurs when plasma from the blood oozes out through pores in the skin.

“When the secretion surfaces it just stays there until something wipes it away, a hand, a leaf, or a shirt.”

With the popularity in the use of the concept of the bubble this news may be hard hitting for some. For others though the situation is different:

“They use [the metaphor] so much but they don't think about it. If you leave a bubble it pops. The metaphor just doesn't work.” claimed a second year who had gone down to class in his pyjamas.

“I liked it until I saw someone snorting milk through his nose, since then my mental image of what a bubble is has changed.” admitted a third year while he was dozing in the study area.

As for the use of the new metaphor, it’s still in doubt. Dr. Munchausen told us that, “While plasma secretions may not be as popular or cute as bubbles, the new metaphor’s value should mean something for those who aim to be accurate and factual.” Stick with us find out more about this discovery.
