Two weeks have passed since LUC was hit with devastating news:
“My three-year term as Dean of LUC The Hague will end in July 2016.”, the Dean wrote in an emotional and touching email.
The Dean is stepping down?
Here at LUC News we needed time to get our heads together before we could report it. While we were still recovering from the massive blow, a group of researchers from our team unearthed some important information the Dean’s original email left out.
While scrolling through upcoming blockbusters on IMDB, our team found that a new iteration of the hugely popular dance series Step Up is slated for release in June 2016, about the time the Dean is to call it quits on his Deanship.
This information could be misconstrued as simple coincidence if it didn’t make so much sense when applied to his email:
“The past years have proven that I cannot do both at the same time and at the level that both deserve. As you can imagine this was not an easy decision,” the Dean wrote in his email, actually referring to his divided career as a Dean and Dancer.
“Although LUC and especially you, the students, still create a stimulating environment for me, I would like to dedicate more of my time to my field of expertise,” continues the email this time referring to his expertise in Slavic dance.
In typical LUC News fashion, we decided to confront the Dean. What followed was an exclusive interview where he opened up about his split life.
“My life has been a story of Double Ds: Dean and Dance. As a professor of Slavic languages and cultural history, I was sucked into the world of dancing, particularly Slavic dance. As an Assistant Professor I could dance Troika, Tropka, and a basic Mazur. When I got tenured I already danced Yablochko, Khorovod (korowód), and some Russian Ballets. As a Dean I finally managed to master the Kamarinskaya, Barynya, and even a Krakowiak.”
When asked about students’ role in his career his emotion showed:
“During my years as Dean I’ve always been able to channel the inspiration I got from you, the students, and apply it into my dancing. I kept dancing on the side, but lately I’d been uploading YouTube videos. These were seen by Hollywood executives and one thing led to the next. I was cast as a lead in the upcoming Step Up sequel. I’ll carry you all in my heart as I dance it out on the world stage.”
Here at LUC News we thank the Dean for his great work at LUC and wish him the best of luck in all his future endeavours.
