Halloween Special: Niki Sol’s Top 10 Moments

A year ago, Niki Sol, LUC’s Student Life Officer at the time, informed students that:

“I know there is a lot going on this weekend with Halloween and other activities. Just a friendly reminder to please be safe, know your limits, and respect and look out for one another. Have fun.” (31st October 2014)

Here at LUC News, we decided that it was time to remember the other observations and pieces of advice Niki Sol sent in her weekly emails. Here is a list of our 10 favourite Niki Sol quotes:

1. When she informed us that throwing watermelons out of windows was not okay.

“This afternoon our dean went out onto the rooftop terrace to discover that someone had tossed a watermelon out of his or her window and onto the rooftop terrace.” (21st of August 2014)

2. When she explained how to cough.

“Also, please remember if you are coughing to not cough into your hands; instead cough into the inside (crook) of your elbow.” (5th of September 2014)

3. When she reassured us that:

“I’m NOT crazy!” (5th of September 2014)

4. When she told us to google it.

“Not familiar with the term? Well, you can find several good definitions online, including at Urban Dictionary.” (12th September 2014)

5. When she explained how to clean.

“For those of you living in AvB, some have noted an unpleasant smell emanating from their bathrooms. If you take the different components out of your shower drain (there are reported to be five) and clean them, this should eliminate the problem.” (26th of September 2014)

6. When sent an email to apologise for all the emails.

“Sorry to keep bothering y’all about this.” (28th of November 2014)

7. When she explained that shopping carts are fire hazards.

“DUWO has noted an exorbitant amount of trolleys (over 20) in the building. Aside from the fact that these are the property of their respective stores (and thus stolen property), they also pose a fire risk.” (6th of February 2014)

8. When she added fish to the lists of things we couldn’t throw out of our windows.

“[F]ish have been found both on the terrace and in a stairwell this week.” (20th of February 2014)​

9. When she ran out of things to say.

“Not a lot this week to report, but we hear the weather is supposed to be sunny and warm(er) this weekend, so be sure to get outside and soak it in!” (6th of March 2014)

10. When this happened.

“[T]ake photos of the waste from your dinner every evening from 16-22 March and post them to the Facebook event.” (13th of March 2014)

All in all, LUC is certainly not the same without Niki Sol.
