In the News: New Babylon Businesses Booming

The New Babylon, a bastion of innovation piercing the heavy gray clouds of the Hague, was launched in 2014. With myriad shops offering a spectrum of products, every customer can find something they want in its breezy hallways. As we all know, economically, the Babylon (pronounced /bɑːbaɪloʊn/) has been a resounding success. However, recent developments have shown that the shopping mall is only going to grow in popularity.
“The New Babylon was a huge investment, and that is immediately clear when you see how impos- monumental, it is,” the owner of the mall, Mr. Ham Urabi, assured us. “We are coming on our second year since opening, and we have already cleared the investment, we are earning profits above and beyond anything we estimated.”
And this success will only grow as a recent study published by Leiden University shows.
“The flocks of people filling the halls of the Babylon will continue to attract more. It's a human law of attraction; where there are tons of people others will want to come. Sorta like like sunlight and plants, or honey and bees, or women and me.” claimed the head researcher.
While for most LUC students nothing past the Dagelijkse Lekker and the AH-to-Go is familiar, some have ventured into the bowels of the building and have returned to tell us about it.
“It is really crowded, everyone is buying. Even the art store with the cow heads and things is packed.” reported a third year, who had emerged from the mall with beer and crisps in hand.
“Fashion Factory on the second floor is ALWAYS full. What do they sell there?” asked a confused first year.
“I regularly go into the Haagse Bos, and to get there I have to squeeze past the crowds heading into the shops. They are going to build another babysitting place, because the one next to Spar is already busting at the seams.” said a well informed second year.
For those less adventurous among us, another remark rang more true:
“When in class, it is always awkward to look over at the Babylon from our windows because there are so many people looking back.”
There is a big wide world outside of AvB, and some of it is worth exploring. Have you gone out recently? Contact LUC News with your fascinating stories!
