Earlier this week reports cropped up around campus that Antoon de Graaf, a second year, had just returned from his 4 month internship in Bolivia. Antoon's return, given his popularity at LUC, has been widely anticipated by students. His worried friends however claim that the Anton who has returned is a different Antoon altogether.
“He came back and now he's saying ‘Hola,’ and ‘Adios,’ anytime he sees us,” said his friend Martijn. “Whenever you walk in front of his door you hear him blasting latin music.” he continued.
According to other reports Antoon, who had a temporary unpaid position at the Dutch embassy, is inseparable from his hat which he bought at a souvenir stand on a bus trip visiting the Andes.
“When you enter his room it's culture shock. I wouldn’t recommend going in if you have photosensitive epilepsy because it's so colorful. It’s like he bought everything they had at the airport and decorated his room with it.”
Despite only taking 3 months of Spanish class in Bolivia, and only spending 4 months total in the country, Antoon says that he feels “more Bolivian than a llama.”
Stick to LUC News for more news about Antoon, thinly veiled criticisms, cultural appropriation, and other mostly-harmless manifestations of colonialism.
